FleetSTATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Mount Loretto Friendship Club, Pleasant Plains, honored sailors in town for New York’s Fleet Week 2015 with a luncheon on Friday.

Over 200 of the club’s seniors welcomed 11 sailors with an afternoon of food, music and dancing to show appreciation for their service to the United States.

“Fleet Week has been awesome,” said Leslie Fiedler, a sailor on the USS Barry. “We’re all glad we can take some time during this busy week to come see so many smiling faces at places like this.”

The sailors were also given gift bags.

“They are the ones who protect our freedom, and we are honored to have them as guests for today,” said Anna Stout, who works at the friendship club.

The 27th annual Fleet Week is being celebrated with various events throughout New York City, including Staten Island. The weeklong event has been held nearly every year since 1984.
